Samuel M. Danley, 78, of Washington, died Monday, December 20, 2010, in his home, with his family by his side.
He was born December 7, 1932, in Buffalo Township, a son of the late Carl E. Danley and Susan F. Mounts Danley.
Mr. Danley attended Chartiers High School.
On February 10, 1953, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged February 9, 1955.
He owned and operated the Texaco gas station on Wylie Avenue. He was employed by RC Cola for a brief time before retiring from GG&C Bus Co. after 30 years of service. He also worked part-time for Wilson's Ashland Oil.
Mr. Danley resided in Colorado for a brief time but spent most of his life in Western Pennsylvania.
He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and was a former member of Washington County Horseshoe Pitchers Club. He was an avid Steelers fan.
Mr. Danley was a member of Washington Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and Broad Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Linda Zumbro Danley; children Darlene (Daniel) Wright of South Franklin Township, Karen (Scott) Graffius of Alabama, Lisa Zumbro of Belle Vernon, Bruce (Kristin) Nutall of West Newton, Gary A. Danley of Eighty Four and Joseph (Brandi) Danley of West Alexander; 11 grandchildren, Tonya Huey, Chad Wilson, Aaron Graffius, Ashlee Ware, Craig, Rachel and Brian Orr, Kennedy and Madison Nutall, Micaela Danley and Riley Danley; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl (Charlene) Danley; and four sisters, Maryann (Walt) Maze, Ethel (Ron) Cole, Lois (Joe) Breckons and Opal Morrison.
Deceased are two brothers, Alvin Danley and Earl (Pete) Danley.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 24, with the Rev. Jay Freudenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. The Moose Lodge will hold services at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
