Mary Margaret Maloy Hickman, 84, of Waynesburg, formerly of Prosperity, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 13, 1926, in Zediker Station, a daughter of Norris and Wilnetta McGaughey Maloy.
Mrs. Hickman was a 1943 graduate of Trinity High School. During World War II, she was employed by Guy Woodward making hand grenades. Later she worked as a clerk at G. C. Murphy’s and at Singer Sewing Machine Co.
Mrs. Hickman was a member of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder, Presbyterian Women’s Group, Martha V. Paul Chapter 404 Order of Eastern Star, and Prosperity Homemakers and was a 4-H leader for many years.
On January 26, 1949, she married Cecil Neil Hickman, who died April 14, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Steven B. (LuAnn) Hickman of Prosperity; two daughters, Becky (Art) Delprato of Washington and Edith Ruth Roberts of Half Moon, New York; a sister, Grace McLean of Wellsburg, West Virginia; eight grandchildren, Clinton Hickman, Tiffany Nicastro, Kelly Gable, Shannon Harris, Neil Roberts, Kathy Kranendonk, Mary Izzo and Tara Shuba; and several great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two brothers, James Maloy and Harold Maloy.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 31, 2010, with Pastor Larry Deemer officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. The Order of Eastern Star will hold services in the funeral home at 6:30 p.m., Thursday.
