Mary A. “Avon” Fischer, 90, of Washington, died Monday, January 10, 2010, in Washington County Health Center.
She was born April 9, 1920, in Washington, a daughter of George and Bertha Galaher Vernon.
Mrs. Fischer was a homemaker and for 45 years an “Avon Lady.”
She was a member of Meadowlands United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Fischer was president of the McClane Farm Road Good Neighbor Club and was an avid Steelers fan.
She will be sadly missed by Sadie, her faithful canine companion.
On September 13, 1938, she married John Watson Fischer, who died July 22, 2004.
Surviving are two sons, John V. (Twila) Fischer and Daniel L. (Esther) Fischer, both of Washington; a daughter, Ann (Fred) Puchany of Canonsburg; a sister, Jessie Smith of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Taylor, Terri Evans, Traci Keegan, William Pierson, Michelle Williams, Suzette Sciller, Nate Fischer, Justin Fischer, Michael Puchany and Gina Puchany; 20 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and a special niece, Joyce Ann McCrerey.
She also leaves behind her roommate at the health center, Mary Ellen Winfield.
Deceased are two brothers, George and Alvan Vernon; two sisters, Reba Chaplin and Ruth Vernon; and a special sister-in-law, Alice G. Fischer.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 14th, with Rev. Jeffrey Conn officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
