Louis R. Phillips, 87, of Washington, died February 6, 2011, in The Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 26, 1923, in Washington, a son of Louis Ray Phillips and Mary Lovings Moore.
Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the Army and worked at Universal Cyclops for 27 years.
He enjoyed playing cards, watching television, football and telling stories.
Mr. Phillips was Protestant.
His wife, Mary Jane Strothers Phillips, died January 9, 2009.
Surviving are; two daughters, Gwendolyn Gordon and Ellen Jones, both of Washington; a son, Louis Simpson Phillips of England; a sister, Nettie Robinson of Washington; three grandchildren, Dana Brown of Washington, Clyde Jones, Jr., of Pittsburgh and Rodney Jones of Washington; four great-grandchildren, Colby Jones of Pittsburgh, Katara Brown, Pamela Brown and Trevor Jones, all of Washington; a great-great granddaughter, Serayah Leech of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four sisters, Virginia Lovings Johnson, Violet Mae McKinzie, Geraldine Wright, and Earnestine Jones.
Friends will be received Thursday, February 10th, from 2 to 4 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Robert Hickey officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by American Legion James R. Hunt Post 639.
