Nadine Schaffer O’Connor, 72, of Washington, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, in the Donnell House.
She was born August 6, 1938, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, a daughter of the late August and Dorothy Robinson Schaffer.
Mrs. O’Connor was a 1956 graduate of Washington Irving High School, Clarksburg. In 1960, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and did graduate studies at West Virginia University. She was a member and former president of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.
Mrs. O’Connor taught elementary school in North Hills School District from 1960-1966 and was a substitute teacher for Trinity Area School District.
She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon and choir member and served on the Nurture Committee.
Mrs. O’Connor was a member of Grandma’s Club and was a volunteer at The Washington Hospital, where she was honored for 5000+ hours of service.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she was a devoted “Mom-Mom" to her four grandchildren and especially loved attending their activities and sporting events. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan.
Mrs. O’Connor also enjoyed her church and annual family vacations to Outer Banks. She was an avid WVU fan.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas P. O’Connor; two sons, Timothy P. O’Connor of Washington and Michael B. O’Connor and wife Melissa of Duncansville; four grandchildren, Kelsey Elizabeth and Abbey Lynn O’Connor, both of Washington, and Cameron Faith and Braden Michael O’Connor, both of Duncansville; and a brother, David Schaffer of Nokomis, Florida.
Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, February 20th, in Faith United Presbyterian Church, with Linda Webster officiating.
