B. Leroy Newman, 73, of Washington, died Monday, February 21, 2011, in his residence. He had been ill recently, but his death was unexpected.
He was born March 2, 1937, in West Alexander, a son of Arthur and Nannie Main Newman.
Mr. Newman was raised in the Burnsville area and attended Claysville schools.
For 20 years, he was employed at Shenango Steel in its water treatment plant.
Mr. Newman enjoyed working, riding his tractor, and fishing in Florida.
He was Protestant by faith.
On November 14, 1992, he married Elinor Hunt, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Chad J. (Jackie) Newman of Washington; two stepsons, Charles (Sally) Ellis of Ohio and Ronald Ellis of Georgia; two stepdaughters, Becky (Karl) Knoneberg of Canonsburg and Jennifer (Mike) Janovich of Claysville; a brother, Bill Newman of Avella; two sisters, Marie (Bill) Gray of Washington and Betty (Barry) Gallentine of Taylorstown; two grandchildren, Hannah and Ethan; and 12 step grandchildren.
Deceased are a sister, Shirley Wheeler, and a brother, John Newman.
Friends will be received Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 25th, with Rev. Dr. L. Stephen Smith, Jr., officiating.
