John M. “Jasper” Jochynek, 88, of Washington, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011.
He was born December 23, 1922, in Washington, a son of Paul and Anna Jochynek.
Jasper was a veteran of the United States Army Military Police. He retired as an electrical foreman from Jessop Steel Company in 1990.
He was Chief of Police for Canton Township, as well as a Canton Constable and Deputy Sheriff.
Jasper was a member of the Bears Club, Polish Club, and Pulaski Club. He enjoyed his Father and Son Hunting Camp in Elk County, the outdoors, feeding birds, gardening, his loyal dog, Jessie, and especially the love of his five grandchildren.
He was a member of North Buffalo Presbyterian Church.
On August 18, 1951, he married Helen P. Bogochenko, who died July 20, 1998.
Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Jane Jochynek (Jimmy Garrett), Doreen (Dave) Diesel, and Denise (David W.) Lucas, II, all of Washington; five grandchildren, Ashley, Kelli and Jonathan Lucas, and Alex and Connor Diesel; two sisters, Ann Hall of Tampa, Florida, and Helen Skiviat of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are two brothers, Joseph and Stanley “Bay” Jochynek; and a sister, Violet Mrozek.
Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. in North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Saturday, February 26th, with Pastor Gary Gibson and Father Felix Pyzowski officiating. Burial will follow in Scenery Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to North Buffalo Church, 317 Rural Valley Road, Washington, PA 15301; or to Washington Area Humane Society, P.O.
