George Stebella, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in his residence.
He was born March 23, 1925, in Manifold, a son of John Stebella, Sr., and Eva Kudzej Stebella.
Mr. Stebella attended Trinity Schools and worked at Washington Steel for 37 years.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Church, BPOE 775, L.O.O.M. 2, Pulaski Club, Polish Club and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Stebella served in the Navy from June 4, 1943, until his honorable discharge on April 12, 1946, with a rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate, third class. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon with three stars, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and a Navy Unit Citation.
His first wife, Ann Mandich Stebella, died August 19, 1995.
On July 18, 1997, he married Dolores Policz Jochynek, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Diane Eve (John, deceased) Bianchin of Washington, Mary Jane (Ronald) Stollar of Claysville,two step daughters, Kathy Sue Balogh of Canonsburg and Valerie Lynn (Allen) Hassinger of Washington; two grandchildren, Melissa Ursu and Christina Vowcheck; seven step grandchildren, Benjamin Stollar, Bethany Stollar, Brea Robinson, Gia Fitzpatrick, Robert Interval, Jr., Nelson Hassinger and Jorae Hassinger; three great-grandchildren, Brooke Vowcheck, Lyla Vowcheck and John Ursu; and one step great-grandchild, Elijah Robinson.
Deceased are a brother, John Stebella, and a sister, Helen Burchak.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3rd, in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 166 East College Street, Canonsburg, with Father Joseph Jugan officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
