John Joseph Ottena

John Joseph Ottena, 82, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, in his residence. He was born August 22, 1928, in Marianna, a son of Frank and Angelina Pezze Ottena. Mr. Ottena was a coal miner and hoisting engineer for Beth Energy Mine in Marianna. He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and the United Mine Workers. Mr. Ottena had been a baseball umpire. He was a huge Steelers fan and enjoyed hunting, attending UMW meetings, and his cat, Trixie. On January 6, 1950, he married Dollie Maxine McFadden, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Barry (Margaret) Ottena of Houston; two daughters, Rebecca (Doug) Burig and Regina (Jerry) Coleman, both of Washington; two brothers, Frank Ottena of Canton, Ohio, and James Ottena of Marianna; a sister, Annetta Monica of Carmichaels; eight grandchildren, John Ottena, Christopher Ottena, Erica Jestat Garrison, Ashley Jestat, Linsley Burig, Gene Orlandi, Christin Orlandi Brown and Alexa Ferrari; and three great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, John Joseph Ottena, Jr.; a sister, Frances Monica; and two brothers, Anthony and Marcus Ottena. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 12th, in St. Hilary Church, with Father Thomas O’Neil as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to any Alzheimer’s research program.
