Evelyn Gibbs Shunk

Evelyn Gibbs Shunk, 90, of Washington, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011, in the Donnell House. She was born on March 10, 1921, in Gainesville, GA., a daughter of Robert Thomas and Estelle Elizabeth Maxey Gibbs. Mrs. Shunk was a homemaker and was a member of the Third United Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 of the American Legion, Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary, and the Arms Club. On November 25, 1942, she entered the U.S. Army, and served until her honorable discharge, as a Sergeant, on December 17, 1945. For her service, she was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Medal and the WAAC Service Ribbon. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and considered being a homemaker as a profession, and was proud of it. On December 3, 1944, she married Ralph B. Shunk, who died on November 25, 2010. Surviving are a son, Douglas M. Shunk, of Duncan, SC, a daughter, Bobbie Andrea Shunk Gaunt, of Saugatuck, MI; 1 brother, Douglas Gibbs, of Gainesville, GA; 2 sisters, Letty Daniels, of Florida and Peggy Coker, of Gainesville, GA. Deceased are 5 brothers, Frank, Maxie, Edward, Harold and Robert Gibbs, and 2 sisters, Mildred Edge and Betty Gibbs. Friends will be received on Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodruff Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, Gift Processing Center; P.O. Box 749596; Los Angeles, CA 90074-9596.
