Donald Ross Braden
Donald Ross Braden, 82, of Washington, died on Friday, April 1, 2011, at Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 26, 1928, in Washington, a son of Herschel E. and Gaynelle Ross Braden, who died when he was only 5 weeks old.
On September 5, 1950, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served until his honorable discharge on November 30, 1951.
Mr. Braden had worked as a line engineer for Bell of PA.
He was a member of North Buffalo United Presbyterian Church for 32 years, where he was an Elder, taught Sunday School, and was very active in church activities.
He was a member of the Taylorstown American Legion, and the F&A.M., Lodge #164, in Washington. He was also a Boy Scout leader, an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved animals.
Mr. Braden took pride in the many birdhouses that he built, that were home to numerous bluebirds in the Washington area, and he helped to survey bird populations for the Audubon Society.
On June 1, 1979, he married Marlene Joyce, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Donald Tarr, of Edison, NJ; 2 daughters, Carol Wilson, of Butler, PA and Linda Dantry, of Muse, PA; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Dawn D. “D.D.” Braden, a grandson, Jerrod K. Wilson, and his paternal grandparents, who raised him after the death of his mother.
Friends will be received on Sunday, April 3, 2011, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m., the time of service, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating.
