Joseph E. "Butch" "Doc" Daugherty, Jr., 67, of Claysville, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 3, 2011, in the Washington Hospital. He was born on February 5, 1944, in Washington, a son of Joseph E., Sr. and Marilyn Daugherty, of Claysville, and the late Yula Ruetschi Sim. Mr. Daugherty was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from October 24, 1967, until his honorable discharge, as a sergeant, on October 23, 1969. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, 2 Overseas Bars, Sharpshooter Badge, The Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He retired from the Army Reserves, after 34 years of service. Mr. Daugherty worked as a custodian for the McGuffey School District for 32 years. He was a member of the Roadside Chapel and had attended the Lighthouse Community Church. He was a member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639 and the Claysville Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed traveling with his family in an RV, hunting, fishing, square dancing and NASCAR racing. On May 15, 1971, he married Demaris Hood, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Kenneth and Crystal Morris, of West Alexander; and Albert and Paul Daugherty, both of Washington, 2 adopted sons, Kerry (Jennifer) Morris, of Lone Pine and Patrick (Jennifer) Hartman, of Washington; 2 brothers, Roy (Debbie) Daugherty, of Muse, PA and Ronald (Sandy) Daugherty, of Meadowlands, PA; 2 sisters, D. Diane Scott, of Washington, and Linda (Milton) Rice, of Hickory; 9 grandchildren, Brandy, Nathan, Emilee, Danyel, Dustin, Anthony, Lynzee, Bradley and Josh, a great grandchild, Lindsay, as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Duane Wolf officiating. Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
