Raymond Joseph Korczyk, 89, of Washington, died unexpectedly, Sunday, April 3, 2011, in his residence.
He was born November 21,1921, in Carnegie, a son of Joseph and Agnes Salaski Korczyk.
Mr. Korczyk enlisted in the Army on July 1, 1942. He was deployed overseas in June 1943 and assigned to the 7th Photographic Reconnaissance Group, 8th Air Force, in Mt. Farm, England. For his service he was awarded the European-African- Middle Eastern Service Medal with 6 bronze battle stars, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the French Croix De Guerre with Palm. He was discharged in October 1945 with the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Korczyk worked for Lockheed for 17 years as an aeronautical engineer.
He enjoyed photography and traveling and especially enjoyed his annual trips to the 8th Air Force’s reunion in England.
Mr. Korczyk was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church.
On July 28, 1951, he married Dorothy Mae Parsons, who died October 10, 2009.
Surviving are two brothers, Robert Korczyk (good friend Peggy) of Greentree, and Richard (Lois) Korczyk of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 7th, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, with Father Thomas O’Neil as celebrant. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
