Earl Matthew Brown, 79, of Scenery Hill, died Monday, April 4, 2011, in his residence.
He was born May 25, 1931, in Washington, a son of George and Alice Haley Brown.
A veteran of the Army, Mr. Brown served from October 23, 1952, until his honorable discharge on November 12, 1954. He earned the Occupation Medal – Germany and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Brown worked as a custodian at McGraw-Edison for 22 years.
He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, fishing and time spent with family. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.
Mr. Brown was Protestant by faith.
On January 11, 1968, he married Lillian Salisbury, who died August 24, 1995.
Surviving are four sons, James “Sonny” Brown of San Antonio, Texas, Earl “Bugs” Brown of California, and Frank Brown and Robert “Bobby” Brown, both of Washington; and a daughter, Tammy (Kenny) Gray of Scenery Hill; four step children, Shirley (Robert) Marquis of Kentucky, Joyce (Steve) Walker, James Salisbury and William (Sherry) Salisbury, all of Washington; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife, are four brothers, George, Frank, William and Ralph; three sisters, Elizabeth, Ann and Ida; and two grandchildren, Mildred (Harold) Eldridge and James Salisbury.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 9th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by VFW 191, Canonsburg, and American Legion 902, Houston.
