Anna Maria Brooks, 86, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in her residence. She was born February 5, 1925, in Dillingen, Germany, a daughter of Jacob and Anna Nagengast Gruber. Mrs. Brooks came to the United States as an Army bride. She worked as a nurses’ aid at Washington Hospital for several years and enjoyed crocheting and being with her family. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In July 1954, she married William Almon Brooks, Jr., who died August 25, 1994. Surviving are three sons, Eric Brooks, David (Tammy) Brooks, and Jacob (Debbie) Brooks, all of Washington; a daughter, Heidi (Michael) Hamilton of Canonsburg; a step-son, Bill Brooks of Cecil; two brothers, Rudy and Jacob Gruber, both of Germany; a sister, Erana Reichert of Germany; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Deceased are five children, Egon, Bobby, Rosemary, Elizabeth and Trudy; a step son, Billy Brooks; a step-daughter, Debbie; a sister, Hannelore Gruber; and two grandchildren, Heather and Nichole. Friends will be received 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Friday, April 8th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Fred McCloskey officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301; or to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
