Charles H. “Chuck” Amend, Sr., 89, of Washington, died Monday April 11, 2011, in the Donnell House, following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 14, 1921, in Carnegie, a son of Robert and Edna Evans Amend.
Mr. Amend enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 9, 1942, serving with Company E 466th Quartermaster Regiment. He was honorably discharged April 2, 1943.
He was a laborer, retiring from S.P. Kenny.
Mr. Amend enjoyed music, singing and dancing. He also enjoyed gardening, taking walks, having breakfast at Eat’n Park and lunch at Ponderosa.
He was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church.
On August 8, 1972, he married Dolores Migliori, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Harry (Jeanie) Amend, of Bulger, Charles Amend, Jr. and James (Charlene) Amend, of Baldwin; two daughters, Lucy Sladik, and Roberta Carey Adams, of Buffalo, NY; and eighteen grandchildren, and 21 great-granchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Robert and Thomas Amend, and John Nixon; and a sister, Sara Korzinski.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 Thursday, April 14, 2011, with Rev. John Hoffman officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray.
