Lloyd George "Ham" Clutter Jr., 86, of Washington, died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011, in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale. He had been ill for several months.
He was born January 23, 1925, in Washington, a son of the late Lloyd George Clutter Sr. and Velma Higgins Clutter.
Mr. Clutter attended Washington schools before joining the U.S. Army August 21, 1943. He served in Central Europe and Rhineland, earning the Bronze Star, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and American Service Medal. Mr. Clutter was honorably discharged March 14, 1946, with a rank of technical sergeant.
He formerly worked for Hazel-Atlas Glass Co. in Washington, and McGraw-Edison in Canonsburg. Mr. Clutter also was employed as a heating and air conditioner contractor for Sears before operating Clutter Heating and Air Conditioning with his brother, Tom.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, the Polish Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a charter member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
Mr. Clutter enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
On June 29, 1947, in St. Hilary Church, he married Mary Ann Bober, who died November 19, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence Michael (Kathleen) Clutter of Canonsburg; a daughter, Mary Beth Glover of Centerville; two sisters, Mildred (the late E.M.) Randazzo of Washington and Marilyn Hutter of Boardman, Ohio; six grandchildren, Lawrence Michael (Carrie) Clutter Jr., Mark Ryan (Denise) Clutter, Michael Alan Clutter, Christine Marie Glover, Jennifer Lynn Glover and Roger Ian Glover; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cara, Kyleigh and Gage Clutter; an aunt, Lorea Jean Crawford Colvin of Washington; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Susan Renee Clutter; a son, Timothy Brian Clutter; and three brothers, Charles "Tom," Donald and Robert Clutter.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28, in St. Hilary Church, Washington, with Father Thomas O'Neil as celebrant. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
