Lewis Franklin Shuman

Lewis Franklin Shuman, Sr., 78, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in Kindred Hospital, North Fayette Township, due to organ failure following heart surgery. He was born April 22, 1933, in Littleton, West Virginia, a son of Albert B. and Mary Louise Courtwright Shuman. Mr. Shuman was a contractor for Fred Fleet Home Remodeling. He was Protestant by faith. In August 1957, he married Carolyn C. Gooding, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Lewis F. (Teresa) Shuman, Jr., and Randy (Nicole) Shuman; a daughter, Pamela Susanne (Daniel) Huggins; a sister, Juanita McCutcheon; a sister-in-law, Wilma (Kenny) Hatfield; 10 grandchildren, Robert III, Mike and Amber E. Huggins, Ashlee, Lewis III, Brittany, Christine, Brandon, Jacob, and Blaine Shuman; three great-grandchildren, Samantha and Erica Huggins and Kaylee McCartney; and Brandon’s mother, Lisa. Deceased are five sisters, Wilda (Cleve) Loar, Georgia (Dale) Crouser, Helen (Loyd) Darymple, Dorothy (Wylie) Toland, Mary Louise (George) Trynoff; a brother, Junior (Bobbie) Shuman; and a son who died in infancy. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 30th, with Rev. Donald Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.
