Jean Hughes, 79, of Washington, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in Donnell House, following a one-month illness.
She was born August 2, 1931, in Washington, a daughter of James Jeffers, Sr., and Mary Ruschell Jeffers.
Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of Washington High School.
For seven years, she worked as a caregiver at Happy Face Daycare, where she enjoyed working with the kids.
She was very fond of her dog, Missy, who will miss her greatly.
Mrs. Hughes was a sports fanatic, especially fond of college basketball and the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
In 1950, she married Charles Hughes, Sr., who died September 30, 1982.
Surviving are a son, Charles (Bernadette) Hughes, Jr.; two daughters, Pam (Ron Sr.) Flint and Myra (Frank) Hughes, all of Washington; a brother, Earl “Hart” Jeffers of Chillicothe, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ashley and Mariah Zambelli and Ron Flint Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Tanner and Ethan Flint and Haven Roberts; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, James Jeffers, Jr.; and a sister, Mary Jeffers Rodgers.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14th, in Immaculate Conception Church, with Father Michael Ruffalo as celebrant. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
