John Alden Verderber, 81, of Washington, died on Sunday, May 22, 2011, in Kade Nursing Home.
He was born on December 5, 1929, in Washington, a son of Otto John and Helen Fonner Verderber.
A graduate of Trinity High School, he also attended Washington and Jefferson College, and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He devoted his career to sales and was the owner of Medical Electonics Associates.
Mr. Verderber was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was a member of the choir. Singing was very important to him. Most recently he was a member of the South Hills Barbershop Chorus and was president of the Washington Chapter of SPBSQSA.
A lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, he was also very active in the Pittsburgh Cursillo Movement
He was an avid runner, and enjoyed woodworking and walking his dog, Heidi.
On October 7, 1950, he married Joan Hazlett, who survives.
Also surviving are 4 sons, William J. (Nell) Verderber, of Costa Mesa, CA; Dennis L. Verderber, of Washington, Timothy J. (Pam) Verderber, of Washington, and Gregory J. Verderber, of Monroeville; 3 daughters, Suzanne L. Verderber, of Goose Creek, SC; Nancy J. Verderber and Kathleen A. Lightner, both of Washington; a brother, James L. (Marilyn) Verderber, of Washington; a sister, Jean Venema, of Sebring, FL; a grandson, Samuel R. Verderber; a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Verderber, of Marysville, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Joseph Verderber.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
