John William “Bill” Efaw, 69, of Carmichaels, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.
He was born July 16, 1941, in Waynesburg, a son of Orville Kenneth and Regina Herrod Efaw.
Mr. Efaw was a veteran of the Navy, entering the service on August 5, 1959, and serving until his honorable discharge on July 25, 1963, with a rank of Boatswain’s Mate, third class. He then served in the Naval Reserves until August 4, 1965.
Mr. Efaw worked for 37 years for Boilermakers Union Local 154.
He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
Mr. Efaw was regarded as a perfectionist and loved his family tremendously. He enjoyed NASCAR, football, especially the Steelers, and spending winters in Florida.
He was Protestant by faith.
His wife of 32 years, Darla Flinn Efaw, survives.
Also surviving are a son, John W. Efaw of Washington; a daughter, Carla Efaw of Washington; a stepson, John T. Svecnik of Pittsburgh; one brother, Curt Efaw of Lone Pine; six grandchildren, Megan, Zachary and Christa Efaw, Jolene and Haeleah Anderson and Chuckie Swogger; and a great-grandchild, Julius Efaw.
Deceased is a brother, Jerry Efaw.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, June 6th. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
