Harold Ross Mccord, Sr.

Harold Ross McCord, Sr., 85, of Washington, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. He was born March 31, 1926, in Washington, a son of James H. and Delle Brookover McCord. Mr. McCord was a World War II veteran of the Navy, serving from September 7, 1943, until his honorable discharge on December 29, 1945, with a rank of Seaman, first class. For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. For 38 years, Mr. McCord was a truck driver for Dillie Motor Freight. He enjoyed golfing and working with his hands. Mr. McCord attended Keystone Baptist Church. On June 29, 1963, he married Ellen Maier, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Tim (Sue) McCord of West Alexander; three daughters, Nancy Moore of Marianna, Cathy (Mark) Opferman of Pittsburgh and Valerie Nagel of New Eagle; a brother, Bernard “Duke” McCord of Riverdale, Utah; two sisters, Shirley Strott of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Laura Jean Rummer of Coolville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Deceased are his first wife, Betty Jane Mounts McCord; a son, Harold R. McCord, Jr.; two brothers; and one sister. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18th, with Rev. Richard Meyers. Burial will follow in Woodruff Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Memorial contributions may be made to Keystone Baptist Church, 701 Wilmington Street, Washington, PA 15301.
