Wilda Mae Gesiak, 93, of Washington, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.
She was born May 12, 1918, in Graysville, a daughter of Hiram Scott and Wilda Grace Loar Smith.
Mrs. Gesiak was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
She worked as a waitress at the George Washington Hotel prior to working as a selector at Hazel Atlas #2 for 15 years.
Mrs. Gesiak was a very independent person who enjoyed completing projects around the house. She also enjoyed her cats, butterflies, gardening, reading a good book and taking care of family and friends.
On September 25, 1959, she married George Gesiak, who died December 13, 2005.
Surviving are a son, Edwin Paul (Arlene) Platt of Warsaw, Missouri; a granddaughter whom she raised as her own, Barbara (John) O’Hara of Washington; a sister, Doris Williams of Wellsburg, West Virginia; six grandchildren, David Hauer, Butch Hauer, Paul Platt, Buster Platt, Lori April and Terri Hoover; 19 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are her first husband, Ruel Platt; a daughter, Betty June Haskett; a brother, Herschel Smith; and 2 granddaughters, Brenda Shaw and Teresa Smallwood.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 29th. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
