Joseph Quay Hammond, 69, of Washington, died Friday, July 1, 2011, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born November 19, 1941, in Washington, a son of the late William Russell and Irene Agusta Kern Hammond.
Mr. Hammond was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. For 30 years, he was a Pennsylvania State Police officer, retiring as a sergeant.
Mr. Hammond was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid history reader and enjoyed working outside. Mr. Hammond was involved with McGuffey athletic programs and with security at McGuffey High School.
On February 20, 1965, he married Carol Braden, who survives.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are three brothers, Harry, William and Herbert; and two sisters, Kitty Lou and Pat.
Friends will be received from Noon to 2 p.m., the time of a Blessing Service, Tuesday, July 5th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Father Michael Ruffalo officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
