Bruce Wilson Swingle

Bruce Wilson Swingle, 57, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, in his residence. He was born September 20, 1953, in Mercer, a son of Dorothy Wilson Swingle of Mercer and the late Harold Swingle. Mr. Swingle joined the Air Force on June 12, 1973. He served as an airplane mechanic, earned the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1977. He worked in the natural gas industry for 33 years, most recently with the Williams Company, as an equipment specialist. Mr. Swingle was a member of the Houston American Legion and enjoyed working on cars, watching NASCAR and spending time with family and friends. He was Methodist by faith. On September 11, 1981, he married Cheri Cartwright, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Lorri (Andy) Holowczak of Independence, Ohio; a brother, Timothy of Butler; three sisters, Dottie (Ken) Taylor of Waynesboro, Sherry (Clyde) Cameron of Cranberry Township, and Edith Swingle of Darlington; and three grandchildren, Maya, Deven and Faith. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in First United Methodist Church, Houston, with Pastor Sang Choi officiating. Inurnment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 213 E. Pike Street, Houston, PA 15342. Military rites will be accorded graveside by the combined honor guard of VFW 191 and American Legion 902.
