Marjorie Jean Mclaughlin Clutter

Marjorie Jean “Marge” McLaughlin Clutter, 84, of Prosperity, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, following a fall and brief illness. She died in the Washington Hospital’s Critical Care Unit surrounded by family members. She was born October 13, 1926, in Prosperity, a daughter of William John and Dorothy Patterson McLaughlin. Mrs. Clutter graduated from Morris Township High School in May 1944. After graduation, she worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Factory as a secretary. It was there that she met Charles Thomas Clutter. They were married October 12, 1947, and celebrated 61 years together as husband and wife. Mrs. Clutter was a homemaker until her three children were grown. Then, in 1968, she went to work for McGuffey School District, first working at Prosperity Grade School. In 1989, she retired as secretary to the principal of Blaine Buffalo Elementary School in order to enjoy her grandchildren. As a lifetime member of the Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Clutter served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. She also sang in the chancel choir, was a youth group leader, and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Mrs. Clutter was an original member of Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and helped to organize bake sales and dances in support of this organization. For many years, Mrs. Clutter served as a Democratic Committee Representative for Morris Township. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, and enjoyed reading, tending to her flowers and plants, and camping at Big Bear Lake in West Virginia with her husband and grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Vickie (Ron) Ritchie; a brother, Wallace “Sam” (Shirley) McLaughlin; three grandchildren, James Brandon Ritchie, John Bryant Ritchie, and Kaitlin Leigh Clutter; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Clutter, all of Prosperity; and six nieces and one nephew. Deceased are her husband, Charles “Tom” Clutter; two sons, John Bruce Clutter and Thomas Bradley Clutter; a brother, Jack P. McLaughlin; and a sister, Marvel M. Hutchinson. Friends will be received 1:30 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 20th, with Pastor Larry Deemer officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 21, Prosperity, PA 15329; or to Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, PO Box 14, Prosperity, PA 15329.
