Edward James Murphy, 92, of Washington, formerly of Amity, died Saturday, August 6, 2011, in the Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 24, 1919, in Washington County, a son of John and Olive Dexter Murphy.
Mr. Murphy worked at Hazel Atlas Glass, Plant #1 and Brockway #2, for a total of 36 years, and at one time, he worked at Donley Brick.
He enjoyed being with family and friends.
His faith was Protestant.
On August 15, 1975, he married Betty Jane Strosnider, who died February 25, 2006.
Surviving are two sons, John R. (Vicki) Benko, of Washington, and Mickey L. Benko, of California; a daughter, Diana (George) Brownlee, of Amity; four grandchildren, Sandy, Vicki, Melena, and Janice; six great grandchildren; two nieces, Mary Rhoades Church and Judy Marra Zubert.
Deceased are three sisters, Liza Rhoades, Opal M. Arnold, and Anne Marra; and five brothers, John Allison Murphy, Robert Clyde Murphy, Corporal Harry I. Murphy, William Murphy and George Murphy.
Friends will be received 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011, with Pastor Thomas Boris officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
