Wilma Dale Mcnurlen

Wilma Dale McNurlen, 92, of Scenery Hill, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, in her residence, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 12, 1918, in Washington County, a daughter of William P. and Mary E. Stathers Van Voorhis. Mrs. McNurlen was employed as a seamstress at the Washington Hospital for 17 years. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Laboratory, sang with the Washington Chapter of the Sweet Adelines, and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. In 1938, she married George Andrew McNurlen, who died in 1993. Surviving are a son, George Andrew McNurlen, II, of Scenery Hill; three daughters, Odessa “Betty” Dolan and Linda Hudock, both of Scenery Hill, and JoAnn (Stuart) Miller of Washington; a sister, Ruth Knestrick of Amity; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased are a daughter, Wilma Jean McNurlen; a brother, William Van Voorhis; and two sisters, Virginia Kusch and Jean Ames. Friends will be received 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Friday, August 12th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. Burial will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
