View Video TributeSarah Jane Ostovic, 42, of Washington, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, August 15, 2011, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.She was born February 14, 1969, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Mary Ann Thomas Ostovic of Washington and the late John Ostovic. Sarah was a daughter that blessed the lives of her parents and gave them many reasons to be proud.She had a love of sports, was an avid team player and supported her teams by cheerleading for her alma mater, Washington High School class of 1987. Sarah attended Mercyhurst College, graduated from West Liberty College in 1991, and was a member of Alpha Xi Sorority. She was recognized for many achievements, including her election to the Outstanding College Students of America for Outstanding Merit and Accomplishment as an American College Student and the Trumpet Award for Outstanding Reporting from West Liberty College. She was active in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Washington Rotary.Every St. Patrick’s Day, she celebrated her Irish heritage by conducting educational demonstrations in traditional Irish dancing. Sarah believed reading and literacy to be of the utmost importance to a child’s developmental skills and education. Her passion for this lead to membership in the Rotary International Club of Washington and creating their “Trivial Pursuit” benefit contest, which her father’s team won first prize in in 2003. The financial gifts of the team benefited the Washington Community for educational purposes.Sarah worked in a variety of capacities in both public relations and politics, frequently serving as a consultant on local campaigns in Washington County and the Upper Ohio Valley. She had also worked as a librarian for the Ohio County and Donora Public Libraries, and as a public relations account executive for Squibb Mansuetto in Wheeling, West Virginia.She had a love of animals throughout her life. Sarah enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and she and her fiancé, Bobby Dhans, would often go camping and boating.Sarah is survived by her beloved daughter, Molly Ann McCoid, who lives in Wheeling, West Virginia with her father, Robert (Kelley) McCoid.Sarah lovingly embraced motherhood and her devotion to Molly Ann led them on many adventures, including high tea and scones and planting flowers in their Victorian garden, mother and daughter at each other’s sides.Surviving, in addition to her mother and daughter, are her maternal grandmother, Mary E. Thomas; aunts and an uncle, Alice Thomas, Bridget Thomas, Betty and Philip Camden; paternal uncles, Francis and Michael Ostovic; and cousins, Steve, Gwen, Mary Alice, Adam, Betty Sue, Patrick, Jon, Amy, Eric, Mindy and Derrak.Friends will be received Sunday from Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, August 22nd, in St. Patrick’s Church, Canonsburg. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family will be accepting memorial donations, which will be contributed to Sarah’s favorite charities.
