John Francis Logar, 71, of Washington, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
He was born August 13, 1940, in Tyre, a son of the late John A. and Angeline Klemencic Logar.
Mr. Logar was a graduate of West Allegheny High School and attended Juniata College and Duff’s Business School. He was a well-known businessman and former vice president of First National Bank.
Mr. Logar was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher for many years and was involved with St. Francis of Assisi and Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Logar was a valued community volunteer, able fundraiser and noteworthy leader for numerous organizations, including American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, the Salvation Army, PONY, Inc., and Kiwanis. During his term as Kiwanis Conference president, he raised over one hundred thousand dollars for the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind and was honored as Kiwanian of the Year for his praiseworthy efforts. In addition, Mr. Logar served on the Job Retention Task Force, the Coroners Task Force and was a member of the Washington Executive Association.
In 1992, in recognition of his dedication to his community, he was presented with the Clyde J. Tracanna Volunteer of the Year Award.
On June 10, 1960, in Hill Station, he married Evelyn Duke, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, John (Carol) Logar, Jr., of Washington; two daughters, Joni (Mark) Bushmire of Houston and Angela Andrews at home; a sister, Geri (John) Petronka of Washington; six grandchildren, Sierra and Montana Logar, Torre and Brittany Bushmire, and Aleasha and Amanda Andrews; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20th, in Immaculate Conception Church, with Father Richard Wesoloski as celebrant.
