Newton Isaac Sargent, 96, of Washington passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.
He was born November 14, 1914, in Amity, a son of Isaac and Cynthia Sargent.
Mr. Sargent served in the Army during World War II.
For 45 years, he was employed at Drankenfeld, retiring as plant superintendent.
Mr. Sargent was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed baseball, softball, CB radios and hunting in the mountains. At one time, he spent winters in Florida.
Mr. Sargent was a member of Central Assembly of God Church.
He was the last of 17 children in his family.
In April 1934, he married Wilma Elliot, who died in March 1985.
In 1991, he married Mary Cossu Pierson, who survives.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, John Sargent, Michelle Bartlett, Becky DeRose, George Robertson and Bob Robertson; and 9 great-grandchildren, Juliet, Marguerite, Marielle, Justin, Stephanie, Lyndsay, Nicholas, Haley and Elisa.
Deceased are his son, John N. Sargent; a daughter, Shirley Robertson; and a grandson, Steven K. Sargent.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 26th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
