Thelma Marquis, 93, of Mt. Pleasant Township, died Friday, August 26, 2011, in Donnell House.
She was born October 9, 1917, in Hickory, a daughter of Albert Floyd and Sara Viola Sloop Frye.
Mrs. Marquis was a graduate of Hickory High School and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church and its Fireside Club. She was also a member of the Hickory Women’s Club.
On December 23, 1940, she married Thomas Milton Marquis, who died August 8, 2007.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Milton Marquis II of Palestine, West Virginia and James Patterson (Frances J.) Marquis of Avella; a daughter, Patricia Marquis Newberry of Wytheville, Virginia; a brother, William Frye of Hickory; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Marquis Newberry, Robert Stewart Newberry, Nathan James Marquis, Katelyn Rebecca Marquis and Marci Shore; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 29th, with Rev. R. Douglas Reinard officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
