Francis Allen “Frank” Dicks, 82, of Washington, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011, in Manor Care, McMurray. He was born June 22, 1929, in Washington, a son of Clarence H. and Helen King Dicks. Mr. Dicks retired from the Army after 22 years of service. He then became head of security and administrative assistant to the president of Jessop Steel Corp. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he served as a lay minister as well as Sunday School superintendent and was a Vestry member. He was a 48-year member of the Lions Club as well as its past president, and a member of Disabled American Veterans and Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. As a hobby, he enjoyed being a locksmith. On February 6, 1949, he married Norma Jean Simms, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Bonnie Matlow (Randy) of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Janice Marie Messmer (Bill) of Washington, and Carolyn Frances of Wesley Chapel, Florida; five sisters, Hellen Jean Kelley, Clara Anderson (Cecil), Mary Kania, and Alberta Lunn, all of Washington, and Peggy McVehil (Robert) of Beaver Falls; nine grandchildren, Dylan, Anna, Jennifer, John, Mary, Robert, Nathan, Patrick and Alan; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Clarence R. and William G. Dicks. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, September 24th, in Trinity Episcopal Church, 550 South Main Street, Washington, with Rev. Karen Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 11676 Perry Hwy # 2104, Wexford, PA 15090-7200, or to Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, 566 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301-3798.
