John Schofield, Jr., 86, of Hickory, died peacefully, Thursday, September 29, 2011, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born May 21, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late John Schofield, Sr. and Josephine Warner Schofield.
Mr. Schofield graduated from Hickory High School in 1943, and served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Washington Alliance Church, 246 Sanitarium Road, Washington, PA for over 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and playing with his dog, Cyrus.
Mr. Schofield worked at Combustion Engineering in Muse, PA for 28 years, and prior to that at an Iron Works plant in Denver, Colorado, and U.S. Steel in Homestead. He belonged to the National Association of Power Engineers in Pittsburgh.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Margaret Rea Schofield; a daughter, Connie (Vince) Crider, and granddaughter, Katherine, of Canonsburg; a son, Eric (Diane) Schofield of Monroe, Michigan, and grandson, David (Rayna) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; daughter, Laura Schofield of Monroe, Michigan, Rebecca Schofield and great-grandson, Isaac of Monroe, Michigan; daughter, Roxann Schofield Drabeck of Hickory, and grandson, Michael (Valarie) Schofield and great-grandsons, Cameron Schofield and Ryan Schofield of Avella; granddaughter, Cristen (David) Nopwaskey and great-grandson, Logan Nopwaskey of Burgettstown; and daughter, Susan, (Jim) Brodnick and granddaughters, Anna Brodnick and Abbey Brodnick of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Kenneth Schofield, and a sister, Barbara Schofield Stewart.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, with Rev. C.D. Croscutt officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Alliance Church.
