Harold Kenneth Bell, 89, of Washington, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, in his residence. He was born November 15, 1921, in Washington, a son of John C. and Ethel Matthews Bell. Mr. Bell attended Trinity High School. On September 28, 1943, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. During his service, Cpl. Bell was stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations and saw action on Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged on May 8, 1946. For 42 years, Mr. Bell worked at Jessop Steel, retiring as an inspector in the bar mill. He attended Washington Alliance Church and was a member of the Jessop Club. Mr. Bell enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards with friends, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling to Tappan Lake, Ohio. On August 8, 1970, he married Diana L. Vellotti, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Debra (Robert) Abrams of Washington and Anita (Michael) Lehew of Prosperity; a sister, Shirley Staley; and three grandchildren, Tamara Lehew, Destiny Lehew and Shawn Ruse. Deceased are a daughter, Beverly Elaine Ruse; a sister, Mildred Dobscha; and four brothers, Merle, Donald, Norman and Leonard. Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 3rd. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301; or to American Heart Association, 7829 National Pike # 2, Uniontown, PA 15401-5104.
