Robert Andrew "Shorty" Grudi, Sr.

Robert Andrew “Shorty” Grudi, Sr., 71, of Hobe Sound, FL, and formerly of Washington, passed away on October 2, 2011. He was born in Washington, on September 25, 1940, a son of Frank Stanley. Sr., and Lucinda Dunn Grudi. Mr. Grudi served in the U.S. Navy, from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1962. An employee of Jessop Steel Co., for over 30 years, he had also been the head of the Safety Committee. He enjoyed football, playing semi-pro football for the Washington Generals. Mr. Grudi volunteered over 23 years of his life to coaching and mentoring youth football and Pony League Baseball teams, having had many successful players. He was a member of the Alpine Club and the Jessop Club. A co-owner of a racehorse at the Meadows, he was an avid golfer, reader and lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He is survived by his beloved wife, of 48 years, Margaret Ann Barlow, whom he married on November 23, 1963. Also surviving are 3 sons, Terry Grudi, of Philippi, WV, Robert (Joan) Grudi, of Canonsburg; and Steve Grudi, of Washington; a daughter, Beth Ann Grudi, of Baltimore, MD; 7 grandchildren, April Grudi, Kimberly Moran, Dakota Davidson, Madison Grudi, Morgan Grudi, Amber Grudi and Michael Grudi, a great-grandson, Lucas Moran; a sister, Nancy Borres, of Pittsburgh; 2 brothers, Michael Grudi and William (Denise) Grudi, both of Washington; as well as many nieces and nephews from the Camp, Barlow and Grudi families. He also leaves behind his loyal companion Poodle, “Pumpkin”, and many friends and family, who enjoyed his jokes and stories. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are 2 brothers, Frank, Jr. “Doodle”, and Rick Stolfer. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where a Blessing Service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
