A. Kendall Johnson, 94, of Washington, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 3, 2011, in the Washington Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1917, in Lagonda, PA, a son of Alvin Lee and Margaret Jane Bryner Johnson. A tool and mould maker, he had worked for Hazel Atlas, Continental Can and Brockway Glass for 44 ½ years. He was a member, a Deacon and Elder at the Church of the Covenant. A 1933 graduate of Trinity High School, he also attended Washington and Jefferson College. Mr. Johnson was a member of Sunset Lodge #623, F & A.M., All York Rite Bodies, Chapter #150, Council #1, Jacques de Molay, Commandry #3, member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh and the Shriners of Syria Temple, AAONOMS. He was past Grand Master of Grand Council of Royal and Select Master Masons, from 1974-1975; past Excellent Chief of Knight Masons, Past Preceptor of Holy Royal Arch Templar Priest; Past Prior of York Cross of Honor, from 1974-1975; Past Sovereign of Red Cross of Constantine, in 1985; Past President of the Fourth Division of Grand Commandry, and Past Most Wise Master of Pittsburgh Chapter of Rose Croix. He received his Scottish Rite 33rd degree in Philadelphia, 1981. He was a Frazier Simplex Rifle Club Champion, an avid golfer and hunter, a Scout Master in Lagonda, and a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society. He also enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. On August 17, 1940, he married Thelma Dorothy Dunning, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Keith D. Johnson, of Washington; 2 daughters, Marsha L. (Lt Col, retired, Samuel) Work, of Stafford, VA; and Cynthia L. Johnson, of Washington. Deceased is a brother, J. Kenneth Johnson. He was a truly devoted husband and beloved father. A man of great faith, and many talents, he was involved in many activities, but above all he was a dedicated family man, dearly loved by his friends and especially his family. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where additional visitation will be held on Friday, from 12 to 1 p.m., the time of services. A Masonic Service will be held on Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Covenant, 267 E. Beau St., Washington, PA 15301; Masonic Homes of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022; or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Memorial Donations, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
