Beatrice Fern Desmond
Local author world-renowned dog breeder
Beatrice F. Desmond, wife, mother, friend, of Claysville, passed away on October 8, 2011, in the Washington Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 6, 1928, in Washington, the daughter of Harry L. and Virginia McGary Phillips and Josephine Wade Phillips.
She attended Log Pile Grade School and Trinity High School, where she was a majorette.
On April 12, 1945, she married Joseph “Hank” Desmond, who passed away on January 29, 1992.
She was a lifetime member and frontier founder of the Friendship Community Church, with the Pastor Floyd Marasco and the current Pastor Rick Bruckner.
She worked at the G.C. Murphy Company in printing and window dressing, retiring to fulfill her passion of breeding and showing the Bull Terrier Canine.
She and her late husband, Hank, loved to travel to dog shows, and the Chrysler 300 Car Shows. She was known worldwide for her great achievements in producing the complete Bull Terrier. She won many titles with her dogs, which honor the Ann-Dee’s Kennel. Even through her illness she would still travel to shows worldwide pursuing her interests. She was the author of a published book (The Complete Bull Terrifer) in book stores worldwide. She was a corresponding secretary and board member for years of the Bull Terrier Club of America. She founded the local chapter club Golden Triangle in Pittsburgh.
Surviving are 5 children, Elaine Bernard (Gary Gilbert) of Dallas GA, Sally Senay-Brogley (John Brogley), of West Finley, Joseph “Michael” Desmond (Betty Ann “Betsy”) of Claysville, Pamela Jo Desmond of Claysville, Samuel Desmond (Cindy) of Claysville; 2 brothers, Marion “Sonny” Wade, of Arkansas and Harry L. Phillips, Jr. of Washington, 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to her Memorial Service Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Washington Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan Lutz officiating.
Friendship and remembrance immediately following the service at the New Life In Christ Church 600 Allison Ave, Washington.
