Guy Harris, 71, of Washington, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, in the Washington Hospital. He was born June 7, 1940, in Washington, a son of Guy and Lillian Mae Salsberry. He was a Vietnam veteran and career Navy man. During his 20 years in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Roosevelt and the USS Nimitz, and was stationed at the Newport, Rhode Island, Naval Station, the Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Naval Base, and the Mayport, Florida, Naval Base. At the time of his retirement, he was stationed at the Pentagon. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuban Operations), Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal (three awards). Mr. Harris worked at Chestnut Hill Apartments in Washington and Nostalgic Reflections in Claysville and retired from York Realty. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed NASCAR and model trains. On January 12, 1970, he married Virginia A. Steele, who died June 14, 2011. Surviving are two sons, William B. (Susan) McLaughlin of Washington and Guy W. (Melinda) Harris of Claysville; three daughters, Karen J. (Jerry) Kiskadden of Amity, Kellie A. (Patrick) Orlosky of Washington and Kathie V. (Jim) Sims of Tyrone; four sisters, Shirley Harris of Conneautville, Anna Malone of Washington, Pam (Len) Beard of Florida, and Patricia Purdy of Kennesaw, Georgia; 15 grandchildren, Melissa and Jessica McLaughlin, Stephanie Butera, Brandon Keirs, Jeremy Kiskadden, Steven, Kevin, Mark and Daniel Orlosky, Christina Davis, Timothy and Christopher Harris, Mickey, Brea and Cody Harris; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dog, KC. Deceased are a son, Michael J. Harris, and an infant daughter. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Friday. Services will be private with burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
