Sylvia Nadine Byers, 70, of Washington, died Monday, October 24, 2011, in the Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born June 23, 1941, a daughter of Glenn and Dorothy M. Mackey Renz. Mrs. Byers was a 1959 graduate of Trinity High School and was a homemaker who had worked at Washington Cemetery and Nickles Bakery. She attended Fairhill Manor Christian Church and was a member of L.O.O.M. 318. Mrs. Byers enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, her dogs, Henry and Joey, and her cat, Sassy. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, puzzles, fishing and flowers, especially snapdragons. On March 2, 1961, she married John Randolft Byers, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are sons, John Byers, Jr., of Claysville, Daniel Byers of Washington, Robert Lee (Kimberly) Byers of Banetown and Ralph Allen of Ellsworth; daughters, Sharon Polen, Teresa Barney, and Kimberly Friend, all of Washington, and Cindy Dreier of Powell, Tennessee; brothers, Glen Renz and John Renz; sisters, Susan (Delbert) Stewart, Joan Naylor, and Shelley (Dan) Catron; grandchildren, Elijah “Jake” Miller, Calla Sue Byers, Kohl R. Johnson, Bobby Lee Byers, Jr., and Danielle Rae Byers; great-grandchildren, Braden Bedillion, Robert L. Byers III, Haylee S. Roupe, Calvin Byers, Riley M. Smith, and Cyan A. Byers; and several cousins, nephews and nieces. Also surviving are life-long friends, Dave McVay, Freda Jones, JoAnn Harner and Caroline “Angel” Crites. Deceased are a son, Dennis Lucas; brothers, James “Buck", Tom, and Donald Renz; and grandchildren, Holly Marie Byers and Andrew Glen Byers. Friends will be received Noon to 2 and 4 to 6 p.m. the time of service, Friday, October 28th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Michael Roach officiating.
