Samuel George Matesic, 67, of Washington, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, in Presbyterian Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was born January 20, 1944, in Slovan, a son of the late Samuel and Judith Guiddy Matesic. Mr. Matesic graduated from Burgettstown High School in 1962. He was a veteran of the Army, serving from March 31, 1964, until his honorable discharge on March 3, 1967, with a rank of Specialist, 4th class. He earned the M-14 Sharpshooter badge, and, for his service, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Presidential Citation. He was retired from Trinity School District, where he had worked as a custodian. Prior to his employment with the school district, he owned Washington Fire Extinguisher for several years and also Matesic Carpet Care. Mr. Matesic was a member of Disabled American Vets, Freedom Team, and Taylorstown American Legion Post 907. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, watching old westerns, and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. Mr. Matesic was Catholic by faith. On October 24, 1970, he married Jean Windsheimer, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Samantha (Kenneth) McIlroy of Washington; a sister, Mary Carmen Deems of Canonsburg; a grandson, Austen Samuel McIlroy; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, David Matesic. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 2nd. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
