John Joseph Lazek, Jr., 89, of Washington, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, in his residence, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 14, 1922, in Washington, a son of the late John J., Sr., and Josephine Malik Lazek.
A graduate of Trinity High School, he was Catholic by faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. For his service, he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 9 Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Lazek had worked at Albert’s Packing, then later at Green Valley Packing Company, as a truck driver.
He was a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
A fan of all Pittsburgh sports and harness racing, he also enjoyed bowling.
On April 18, 1952, he married Helen Joy Kelley, who died on March 6, 2007.
Surviving are 2 sons, Jack (Michelle) Lazek, of Manifold and Jeffrey Lazek, of Meadowlands; 2 daughters, Jane (Scott) Neal and Josephine Lazek, both of Washington; 8 grandchildren, Jacob, Randall, Adam, Christina, Samantha, Donald, Lucas and Noah; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jayda and Jordan.
Deceased are a brother, Rudy and a sister, Margaret.
Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Sue Petritis officiating.
Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
