William F. Urbanik, 59, of Washington, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 14, 1952, in Washington, a son of Elizabeth “Jane” Tarr Urbanik, of Washington, and the late John Urbanik.
Mr. Urbanik was a 1970 graduate of Washington High School, and attended Edinboro University.
He was passionate about his work, and was a meticulous carpenter. He was known for his uncanny ability to fix and build anything, and developed a skill for baking anything, especially lady locks, which sweetened the hearts of all with whom he shared his creations.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, and seeing the country on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife and friends.
A graduate of the Pennsylvania Police Academy, he had worked as a City of Washington Police Officer, just as his father had, for 7 years. He was also a 12-year employee of Union Electric Steel, in Carnegie.
Mr. Urbanik served as President of Washington Soccer for many years, and coached hundreds all over the region, most notably as Head Coach for varsity boy’s soccer at Washington High School, from 1989-1995. In his youth, he had been very active in the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janice T. (Keeling) Urbanik; a son, William J. Urbanik, and wife, Jessica (Laick) Urbanik, twin grandsons, Aidan and Jacob, of Latrobe; a daughter, Georgia M. (Urbanik) Ullom, and husband, Andrew Ullom, grandson, Cole Kasula, of Hickory; a sister, Kathy (Urbanik) Graff, of Zanesville, OH, and her late husband, Donald Graff and his niece, Heather Graff, of San Diego, CA; a brother, John “Butch” Urbanik, of Washington; an uncle, Daniel Urbanik, of Washington, his mother-in-law, Clara Keeling, and many nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
Deceased is his father-in-law, George J. Keeling.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
