Margaret “”Peggy” Naylon Smith, 93, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.
She was born in Beckley, West Virginia on January 28, 1918, the daughter of the late James L. Naylon and Allie A. Naylon.
Mrs. Smith was a long-time resident of Washington and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. She continued her education at Penn Commercial and Victoria Modeling School. Mrs. Smith was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she married Robert G. Smith, Sr. on August 14, 1943. He died on May 30, 1992.
She was a charter member of the Christian Mothers at IC Church and a member of The Pittsburgh Models Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and spending her winters in Padre Island, Texas, and Yorba Linda, California.
Her career included her family as a wonderful wife and mother, and an executive secretary to the plant manager of Federal Paperboard, Carton Division, where she was employed for 21 years prior to retiring.
Her modeling career included many years of fashion in the local and Pittsburgh areas along with many television commercials. She also appeared in the late 1950’s in promotion with the late Jackie Gleason.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen A. Devore (Robert) of Eighty Four and Suzanne Skowron (Robert) of Yorba Linda, California; daughter-in-law, Fran Chabala Smith of Hickory; three grandchildren, Michelle McNally (Sean) of West Alexander, Kerri Smith of Pittsburgh and Robert G. Smith, III, of Canonsburg; three great-grandchildren, Fallon and Lochlan McNally and Ayden Smith; a sister, Helen N. Joyce (John) of Corpus Christi, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Robert G. Smith, II; a sister, Elizabeth K. Naylon; and a brother, James M. Naylon.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 5th, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Entombment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Diabetes Society or the Building Fund at Immaculate Conception Church.
