Chauncey Roger Headley, 80, of Washington, passed peacefully Sunday morning, November 6, 2011, in his residence.
He was born November 18, 1930, in Washington, a son of Chauncey Virgil Headley and Lillian Wixcey Headley.
Dr. Headley graduated from Washington High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Jefferson College. This was followed by medical school at Temple University, where he earned his medical degree and was a member of AOA National Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Headley served in the U.S. Navy as a physician from 1957 to 1959. During that time, he traveled to Belgium and Norway and through the St. Lawrence Seaway. After leaving active duty, he completed his medical residency at Geisinger Memorial Hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania. Dr. Headley returned to Washington after completing his residency, where he practiced with Dr. Eugene Fisher until Dr. Fisher’s retirement. Dr. Headley continued practicing in Washington with Drs. Rawnsley and DeHaas and their associates.
After retiring in 1990, Dr. Headley spent his time relaxing at home, visiting his children, and diligently attending pulmonary rehabilitation. He was often seen by friends at the Cameron Wellness Center walking on the treadmill. As his emphysema worsened, Dr. Headley courageously did all that he could to remain active. Ultimately, Dr. Headley lost his 40-year battle with emphysema, surrounded by his loving family.
On July 20, 1957, he married Dorothy Patricia Cressman, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Roger Allen Headley (Catherine), of Doha, Qatar; two daughters, Linda Lee Headley of Washington and Stacey Lee Noem-Stanich (Ted) of Leesburg, Virginia; a brother, William (Lunetta) Headley of Paoli; and three grandchildren, Taylor Nadine Noem, Mark Ashton Headley and Chauncey Elizabeth Headley.
