Harold Dewayne Christopher

January 23, 1935 — December 24, 2011

Harold DeWayne Christopher, 76, of Washington, left this life to go home, December 24, 2011. A very proud member of the Apostolic Gospel Church, he had waged a valiant battle to remain here, but this was not the way it was meant to be. On January 23, 1935, he was born in a farmhouse on Christy Road, to Ross and Myrtle John Christopher. Mr. Christopher retired from Washington Steel Corporation as maintenance man/supervisor for twenty-eight ½ years. He also valued the fact that he was one of Washington Steel Credit Unions original members. A man of many hats in his lifetime, he drove tractor and trailer, remodeled and built new homes, and co-owned and maintained a large commercial building and other rental properties with his wife Maxine, who he married January 9, 1960. Surviving are three children, Michele Christopher Irwin and Jason DeWayne Christopher, both of Washington, and Alicia (Brian) Bellew, of Ohio; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many much loved nieces and nephews. He was one of seven children. Surviving are Harry Dale (Jan) Christopher, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mary Joanne (Norman) Dubro, of Delta, Utah, and Lois L. Bercosky, of Marianna. Preceding him in death are a baby daughter, Melinda Lee Christopher, as well as, Evelyn Joyce Christopher, who died at birth, Floyd Allison Christopher, Rev. Wanda June Varner; and a brother in law, Bernard Bercosky. Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, in William G Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011, with the Bishop Allen Jeffries officiating. Burial will follow in West Middletown Cemetery.
