James Anthony George, 74, of Washington, died on Thursday, January 5, 2012, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on May 1, 1937, in Washington, a son of Noma and Sarah Saad George.
After graduation from Trinity High School, Mr. George served 21 years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft maintenance technician. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 3 oak leaf clusters.
After his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. George worked for 15 years at Drakenfeld as a production operations supervisor.
Mr. George enjoyed camping, boating and watching football.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the Elks.
Surviving are two sons, Noma John George of Washington and Michael Anthony (Paula) George of Ohio; a daughter, Donna Marie (Robert) Jones of Washington; two sisters, Phyliss Baldwin and Marlene Furmanek, both of Washington; six grandchildren, Melissa (Pete) Couts of Donora, Nicole (Greg) Hopkins, Skyler George and Noma George, all of Washington, Kayla Eimer of Bentleyville, and Ashley (David) Maple of Pittsburgh; eight great-grandchildren, Jillian, Madison, Emma, Nathan, Jazlyn, Nomyla, Davion and Ivana; his former wife, Shirley George; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Norma Briggs.
Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 9th. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 100 W. Station Square Drive, Landmarks Building, Suite 1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
