Robert Ronald Burt, 87, of Washington, died on Saturday, January 7, 2012, in the VA Medical Center, Pittsburgh. He had been in declining health.
He was born on July 29, 1924, in Washington, a son of John Paul and Florence Matilda Hartzell Burt.
He had worked at Metro Glass as an operator and then as a truck driver for Gibbons Motor Freight.
Mr. Burt served as a Private in the U.S. Army with Battery A 502nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion during World War II, until his honorable discharge on October 4, 1943.
A mechanic and a farmer, he was a member of the American Legion, Post 902, in Houston, the Loyal Order of the Moose, #22, FOE #687, the Jessop Employees Club and the Independent Club.
On March 23, 1946, he married Alice Irene Waychoff, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Robert (Rose) Burt, Sr., of Columbus, OH; David (Glenda) Burt, Sr., of Washington, and Donald (Marie) Burt, of Canonsburg; a daughter, Evelyn Jane (Gerald) Hickman, of Ritcheyville; a daughter-in-law, Shirley “Sam” Burt; a sister, Eva Morris, of Washington; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, James Richard Burt, a grandson, Douglas William Burt, 4 sisters, Ellen Piatt, Mae Frye, Betty Chase and Iva Jane Morris; and 4 brothers, Clarence Burt, Duane Burt, Walter Burt and Kenneth Burt.
Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Don Herschel and Pastor Gary Gibson co-officiating.
Burial will follow in the North Buffalo Church Cemetery.
