Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Geraldine (Gerri) Mae Phillips, 88, of Washington, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, surrounded by family.
She was born May 19th, 1923, in South Strabane Township, daughter of Newton and Alice White. Gerri was the third of seven children, James, William, Eileen, Beula, Jean and Robert. Gerri graduated from Cecil High School in 1941.
Geraldine (White) married George Alton Phillips (deceased) in 1945 in Washington. They had six loving children, Chuck, Norma, Sandy, Susan, Donna, and Georgetta.
Mrs. Phillips worked at The Washington Restaurant for 25 years, and was a longtime member of the Elks Club – Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to play dart ball and golf. She enjoyed baking and cooking meals for family and friends. For 12 years, she was a caretaker and babysitter for numerous children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gerri was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church. She resided in Washington County her entire life.
She was the most loving, giving person we knew. She never knew a stranger, and befriended all.
Surviving are a son, Clarence “Chuck” Phillips, of Washington; two daughters, Norma (Jim) Ward, of Claysville, and Georgetta (Michael) Williamson, of Washington; two sisters, Beula Giacobbe, of Ohio and Eileen Hartzog, of Washington; and a brother, Robert White of Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michelle Anderson, Sherry Dolegowski, Jay Ward, Lisa Hunt, Leslie Atkinson, Angie Crighton, Michael Williamson, Jen Kershaw, Chad Williamson, Jessica Jones, Paige Neenan, Justin Verbosky and Gavin Verbosky; 17 great grandchildren, and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Alton, three daughters, Sandra Lea Phillips, Susan Maziarz and Donna Stewart, two brothers, James White and William White, and two sisters, Eileen Cline and Jean Morris.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens.
