Salvatore “Sam” Mancina, 85, of Washington, passed peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 22, 1926, in Washington, a son of John and Rose Pallette Mancina.
Mr. Mancina was a World War II veteran of the Army. Assigned to Co. G, 255th Infantry Regiment, he saw action in Central Europe. For his service, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge and Army of Occupation Medal-Germany. He was honorably discharged on August 11, 1946.
Mr. Mancina worked in the mould shop at Brockway Glass #7 for 38 years.
He enjoyed being in the yard on his tractor. He also enjoyed watching the Steelers, Survivor, old westerns and boxing, as well as listening to old country music. In his younger years, Mr. Mancina enjoyed getting together with his brothers to rabbit hunt and play cards.
He was the heart of his family and loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Mancina was Christian by faith.
On November 21, 1947, he married Donna Louise Carpenter, who died April 21, 2002.
Surviving are a son, Samuel J. Mancina (Pamela) of Houston; two daughters, Joyce L. Paluda and Peggy A. Mancina, both of Washington; a brother, Frank Mancina of Washington; five grandchildren, Jennifer R. Paluda, Brian S. Paluda, Michael J. Mancina, Denise N. Mancina and Matthew J. Mancina; four great-grandchildren, Sylvester G. Hubble, Samuel I. Hubble, Brendan Paluda and Devin Paluda.
Deceased are five brothers, Santa “Zunt” Munchie, Joseph Munchie, Tony Mancinia, Dominic Mancina and John Mancina Jr.; four sisters, Corilla Richmond, Mary Reese, Catherine Pierson, and Theresa Lindley; and a son-in-law, George L. Paluda.
He leaves behind his feline companion, Daisy.
Services are private and to held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
